Induction primary coil types for forging and mass heating
BEST IN CLASS!!
oem: HIS, AIH, Interpower, westinghouse
Solenoidal or RCS "Open Style ID Cast"
This design is genuinely the best coil design for forging and mass heating applications. With only the ID cast in refractory, refractory can be thicker or even trowel, rendering the most robust refractory cast available. The alignment of the winding is superior, utilizing hardwood supports that force the winding in alignment without the added cost of support studs. The exposed insulated coil winding gives a visual means to inspect for shorting or overheating of the coil winding. Reusable covers are also offered to reduce atmospheric contamination. Alignment pins in the base and the bottom board of the coil are utilized to align the coil to the heating line effortlessly.

Angle or molded frame "Fully Cast"
This design is an older but more durable coil design than a solid cast brick. The cast brick design reduces manufacturing costs; however, the entire assembly is cast in refractory, making it much heavier and more expensive to repair long-term in comparison. The end plates must be isolated from the aluminum frame, which becomes troublesome and a failure point over time. The coil is suspended while cast; this leaves a potential for fluctuating refractory thickness due to vibration during the pouring of new refractory. Reusable pouring forms can help save repair costs over the fiber housing design.
oem: ABP, newelco, pillar
Fiber Housing "Fully Cast"
This design is very similar to the Angle or Molded frame coils. The additional pressed laminate structural boards used for the outer housing are typically rated slightly over 300 F. Thus, any heat exposure to the forging temperatures renders the binder in the board material to burn out. Complete board frames are also more expensive to repair if boards need to be replaced. Typically, we install corner-tapped brass blocks instead of heli-coil bolt anchoring in the pressed laminate frame boards. The design is a European OEM-influenced design. The structural boards act as the pouring forms for rebuilding. Coil alignment concerns during pouring refractory are the same as those mentioned for the Angle or Moulded frame design.
oem: all manufacturers
Channel Type "Cast or Plate Lined"
This design is primarily for end heating and upsetting. A channel is used when high volume is required, and a solenoidal pigeonhole coil can not index cycle quickly enough. The heating efficiency is low at an average between mid-40s to lower 60s. Also, the heated length is fixed with some versatility but typically at the expense of the longitudinal uniformity of the heated length.
oem: all manufacturers
Oval Type "Fully Cast"
This design is typically used when having to plan with space constraints. Primary applications include bar end heating, plates, and axle blanks for forming. These coils are limitedly adjustable to the heated length. The upper ceiling refractory is like a Channel coil in that it is the weakest point due to the chimney effect of heat rising. Replaceable high-temperature plates can be upgraded for these coils to extend the roof life. Rails and non-water-cooled wear strips can be embedded in the refractory floor to push plates across for simplistic pusher indexing of the part through the coil.
Additional designs serviced:
Cast block, Replaceable liners, coreless furnaces, transformer windings, modular and reactor coils, heat treating MIQ inductors, fabricated heat treat inductors, Rails ceramic coated, Hot Inconel rails cables and interconnection bus, quick change upgrades
